Chicago Landmarks MSFS is a highly detailed scenery of Chicago city in Illinois, the United States of America. It includes roughly two thousand custom-made objects and numerous interesting areas of the city to explore. The whole downtown area has been custom-made. You will find plenty of marinas, railyards, bridges, and stadiums – all in full PBR and with epic night textures. Additionally, sceneri … read morees of 17 landable heliports are provided. The product cleverly merges with default photogrammetry.
Chicago is the most populous city in Illinois, as well as the third-most populous city in the United States. With an estimated population of 2,716,450 (2017), it is the third-most populous city in the United States after New York and Los Angeles. The metropolitan area, with nearly 10 million people, is the third-largest metropolitan area in the world by land area.
Chicago is an international hub for finance, culture, commerce, industry, technology, telecommunications, and transportation. It is the site of the creation of the first standardized futures contracts at the Chicago Board of Trade, which today is the largest and most diverse derivatives market globally, generating 20% of all volume in commodities and financial futures. O’Hare International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world, and the region also has the largest number of U.S. highways and the greatest amount of railroad freight. In 2012, Chicago was listed as an alpha global city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network, and it ranked seventh in the entire world in the 2017 Global Cities Index. The Chicago area has one of the highest gross domestic products (GDP) in the world, generating $680 billion in 2017. In addition, the city has one of the world’s most diversified and balanced economies, not being dependent on anyone’s industry.
The name “Chicago” is derived from a French rendering of the indigenous Miami-Illinois word “shikaakwa” for a wild relative of the onion, known to botanists as Allium tricoccum and known more commonly as ramps. The first known reference to the site of the current city of Chicago as “Checagou” was by Robert de LaSalle around 1679 in a memoir. The city of Chicago has been known by many nicknames, but it is most widely recognized as the “Windy City”.

I think the problem with this scenario (dropping the fps after several seconds playing) are the textures.
This version works better for me, I just needed to set the “texture resolution option” a bit lower.
In the previous version (1.2) fps dropped after several seconds playing (from 60fps to 20fps even lowering the texture resolution option).
Now I have all the options in ultra and dlss on and “texture resolution” is in “medium” (before I had it in ultra too).
Configuration of my computer: Nvidia 3080, Amd 5800x3d, 64 mb of ram, 4k, 2Tb nvme gen4.
Now I have 60 fps in this scenario all the time with no fps drops
I got an awesome performance boost with the new update. But the buildings have no textures untill i’m very close…. maybe thats the reason for the good performance ^^
yes the new version is kind of useless for airliners flights, is only worth for helicopters the only way to show the textures from far is if you put the level of details at 200 but that uses lot of CPU and GPU, I think definitely the old version is better
This messes up the new 40th anniversary Meigs KCGX airfield, it keeps the runway markings and spots and you can start on the runway but the airfield terrain and buildings are replaced by present day photogrammetry + landmarks.
I can actually get almost the same performance with this vs default photogrammetry by loading e.g. a helicopter in the area, I get 29 fps then immediately doing Restart, and I get 57 fps. At times it gets pretty slow and if I don’t use this restart trick I can get 15 fps in a few spots, but if I Restart I get 55-60 fps most of the time flying around this scenery. The buildings look much brighter and more detailed than the photogrammetry. When I disable this and only use photogrammetry the Restart trick applies too. I don’t know if it’s and Asobo issue or Nvidia.
If you’re going to fly around Chicago and don’t care too much about Meigs I would disable Megis and use this.
While the performance is okay, unless you’re flying low and slow over the downtown, it has a bigger problem. The city loads exactly when you’re trying to land at KORD (rwys 9 & 10), resulting in multiple freezes and momentary loss of controls. Having SSD and plenty of RAM doesn’t help at all.
yo peeps, not recommended ATM, the fps stutters r worst, its 3-5fps barely with extra loading time… hopefully in future the updates are pretty fps friendly, it looks pretty majestic but the graphics looks poor from distance.
To me it only tanks fps when overflying the downtown at a very low altitude (<4000ft). During normal KORD and KMDW approaches it performs absolutely fine, considering its weight.
Just for everyones infomation: It runs very smooth for me, considering my old system, of which i am even ashamed to tell what GFX card i got (people would start to donate for a new one lol). Tested in the PMDG 737, FSDT KORD and their KMDW scenery installed.
alright i will try it out, if it crashes then i will blame you lol.
Can you update this?
is this ever going to get updated?
