How to install addons

1. Exit Microsoft Flight Simulator in case it is running.

2. Make sure you have WinRAR installed, if not download and install “WinRAR x64 (64 bit)” from the WinRAR website here.

3. Locate your Microsoft Flight Simulator Community folder with the help of this guide.

4. Download the .rar addon file from one of the links we provide on each post.

5. In case you are updating from a previous version of the addon, delete your old addon folder from your Community folder.

6. Right-click on the .rar file and select “Extract Files…”, then select your Community folder and click on “OK”.

7. Rename your ModelLib files / MaterialLib folders as described here.

8. Depending on your platform, delete the following folder:
• Microsoft Store version: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SceneryIndexes
• Steam version: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\SceneryIndexes
• Retail disc version: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\MSFSPackages\SceneryIndexes

9. Done, you can now start Microsoft Flight Simulator again and enjoy the addon. Repeat the same steps when installing a new or updated addon.

How to uninstall addons

In order to uninstall an addon, simply delete the addon folder from your Community folder again. If you need to uninstall a default Asobo Studio or Microsoft addon due to a conflict with another addon, do the following:

1. Start Microsoft Flight Simulator.

2. Inside the MSFS main menu, go to “Profile” and open the “Content Manager”.

3. Enter the ICAO code or name of the addon that you want to delete into the search field on top, then click on the List View icon next to it.

4. The addon should now be visible, select it and click on “Delete”.

Addon is not being displayed or has missing textures

If you correctly followed all steps above but you still notice an addon not being displayed inside MSFS or having pink checkered textures, there’s a few possible reasons:

• Blocked files: Some third party anti-virus programs are quarantining and/or deleting crucial addon files due to false-positives after you extract them. Try deleting the addon folder from your Community folder, temporarily disable your anti-virus program and install the addon again. Then test if the addon is displayed correctly, if so your anti-virus program is causing it.

• Broken .rar file: When extracting an addon and WinRAR reports back any errors, this means your .rar file got corrupted during downloading. In this case, delete the .rar file and addon folder, download the .rar file again and repeat the installation.

• Addon folder placed at the wrong path: Make sure the manifest.json file of the addon is located at this exact path, without any subfolders in between:
“Community\addon-folder\manifest.json”

• Missing dependencies: Some addons require other addons like Libraries, if this is the case it is mentioned inside a red “Important” box on the post of the addon on this website. Make sure you have them installed.

• Addons conflicting with each other: Try to temporarily move all other addons out of your Community folder, then delete your SceneryIndexes folder as described above and test if the addon is displayed correctly. If so, another addon is causing this. To find the conflict, slowly move them back into your Community folder one by one and each time test if the addon is working.

Windows “Destination Path Too Long” error

When extracting addons, you might encounter a Windows error message displaying “Destination Path Too Long”, “The file name(s) would be too long for the destination folder”. You can fix it by doing one of the following things:

• (Recommended) Move your MSFS installation closer to the root of your drive, for example: “C:\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Community\…”
• Enable Windows Long Path by following this tutorial.

Browser blocking downloads

Although unlikely, some downloaded files might be blocked by Chrome or Firefox due to false-positives. To allow the download, do the following:

• Google Chrome: Temporarily change your Chrome Security Settings to “No protection” as described here, then download the file again.
• Mozilla Firefox: Click on the Download and press the “Allow download” button.

Is SceneryAddons a piracy site? Can Asobo detect pirated addons and ban me?

You might have already guessed it, yes this is a piracy site. However almost all addons we are offering come from 3rd party stores, so Asobo cannot tell if you actually purchased them or not.

Asobo might detect addons from our MSFS Marketplace category, but at this time it seems they do not care at all and probably never will. Ultimately you have to decide yourself if you want to install marketplace exclusive addons or not.
