This airfield has a high degree of mixed use in the region with well established Gliding clubs, training schools, maintenance, helicopters, museums, hobbyists and plane builders. Whether it be during the week or weekends, the pattern around the airfield is one of the busiest. Caboolture aircraft movements are managed over CTAF and can be quite challenging at times of heavy use in and around the area with pilots from Caloundra, Redcliffe and scenic rim converging on the area as a destination field to land or just touch and go.
Pushback Studio has focused on this region of Queensland as it truly provides that perfect mix of complexity of airports to fly to and from. Clear prop and take off to the east with breathtaking scenic flights over Bribie Island and onto Moreton Bay, or venture west to explore the Glass House Mountains D’Aguilar National Park and the greater scenic Rim. Strangely, MSFS has two “Caboolture Airports”, the other one is about 6 km from YCAB and has the code YCAU. It is just a small landing strip. I don’t think it exists in the real world.
