London City Airport is an international airport located in the East end of London. It was first proposed in 1981 by Reg Ward, a former director of the British Airports Authority. The proposal was initially met with scepticism, as the site was a former dockyard on the River Thames that required extensive redevelopment. However, the project received support from the London Docklands Development Corp … read moreoration, which saw the airport as a way to stimulate economic growth in the area. Construction began in 1986, and the airport officially opened on November 5, 1987, with a single runway and a small terminal building. In the beginning, the airport was only used by Dash-7 aircraft due to its STOL abilities, but later the BAe146 become its most famous frequent user.
The airport initially served only a few routes, including Amsterdam and Paris, but quickly grew in popularity due to its convenient location and fast check-in and security procedures. In 1991, a new terminal building was constructed to accommodate the increasing number of passengers.
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, London City Airport continued to expand, with the addition of new airlines and destinations, as well as improvements to the terminal and runway. In 2005, the airport underwent a major redevelopment, which included the construction of a new control tower, extended runway, and a second terminal building.
Today, London City Airport serves over 4.8 million passengers annually, with flights to over 45 destinations across Europe, including major business centres such as Frankfurt, Zurich, and Geneva. The airport has become an important hub for business travellers and has contributed significantly to the economic development of the surrounding area. London City Airport has recently installed the world’s first Remote Control tower, consisting of a high platform housing multiple cameras. ATC is now performed many miles in away. There are some terrain issues after the new world update.
What issue exactly?
Airport doesn’t show up for me in the sim, still just the default. First time this has happened for me and I’ve pirated other uk2k sceneries and from other devs without issue. Anyone know what could be a fix?
SimPlaza: The Orbx 2.0 EGLC is released and sucks. UK2000’s version is better and should be recommended. London is my favorite city to fly in and I actually bought the Orbx version 1. Orbx is not the automatic winner that it once was. I mean their Melbourne airport takes 6.7 gigabytes of disk space, for example! Please change your recommendation.
Agreed. It is a complete joke that he’s recommending Orbx over UK2000. No one who owns both uses V2 of Orbx.
No one.
There’s been an update to this. V1.0.1
V1 omitted the Tate & Lyle building and the Thames barrier.
Apparently these have now been included.
Which is better UK2000 London City or Orbx London City?
the UK2000 is more updated
For now UK2000, it’s more accurate and way smaller in size, Orbx started to make their V2.0 because of this, so we will see which is better when that is ready.
UK2000 for newest layout, or just wait for ORBX to update their version
ORBX more detailed , fps UK2000
I want to know too,
What does SP recommend?
orbx
UK2000’s version is better than the current Orbx’s version because it has an updated layout closer to reality. But Orbx is working on upgrading their EGLC and it will be released soon.
Right now? Uk2K. In a week when 2.0 of Orbx releases? Who knows?
Brilliant – thanks!
